Kenyan’s Unclaimed Motorcycles, Cars, and Other Items Set for Public Auction in May

  • Makys Auctioneers will auction over 20 motorcycles and a tuk-tuk currently lying unclaimed at Kilifi Police Station if owners fail to reclaim them within 14 days from May 2, 2025

A wide range of unclaimed motorcycles, cars, and other assorted items currently held at various police stations and yards across Kenya have been slated for public auction.

Several auctioneers published legal notices latest edition of the Kenya Gazette, volume 83.

The auctions will be conducted under the authority of the Disposal of Uncollected Goods Act (Cap. 38), which empowers auctioneers to sell idle or abandoned property after giving notice to owners.

In total, over 70 motorcycles, several motor vehicles, a tuk-tuk, bicycles, and even scrap metal are expected to go under the hammer unless owners reclaim them and settle outstanding costs within the required timelines.

Kilifi Police Station

Under Gazette Notice No. 5758, Makys Auctioneers announced the impending sale of more than 20 motorcycles currently lying unclaimed at Kilifi Police Station.

The list includes a mix of registered and numberless bikes, with brands such as Boxer, Haujim, TVS, FHM, and Zongshen featured. There is also a scrap tuk-tuk among the items.

Owners have been given 14 days from May 2, 2025, to claim the goods and cover the cost of the public notice and failure to do so will result in public auction.

Wundanyi and SabaSaba Police Stations

A more extensive list of items, including motor vehicles, motorcycles, metal parts, and scrap items, is set for auction by Pettfriend Auctioneers under Gazette Notice No. 5759 and 5760.

The items are currently being held at SabaSaba Police Station and Mwatate Police Station. Among the vehicles set for sale are:

  • Isuzu (KCW 314F), Toyota (KCB 33K), and Proton models (KBL 618S, KRQ 074G)
  • A numberless Mitsubishi Pajero, described as green and silver in color
  • Multiple TVS HLX 125s

In total, more than 30 motorcycles and related vehicles are marked for auction.

Nairobi private yards

Meanwhile, in Nairobi, two private companies, Garim Investments and Star Gold Enterprises Ltd, have issued their auction notices in Gazette Notices No. 5761 and 5762.

Garim Investments is calling on the owner of a Subaru (KCB 270S) to collect the vehicle within 30 days or risk forfeiture. The car is currently stored at L.R. No. 202/1/3, near Rivers Mall along the Northern Bypass.

Star Gold Enterprises, operating along the Meru-Nairobi Highway, has issued a similar notice for two vehicles:

  • Toyota Succeed (KCN 212X)
  • Unknown vehicle (KAZ 295L)

Other auctioners including Wamula Auctioneer Services, A-Plus Auto Garage, Mantrac Kenya Limited, and Windsor House Auctioneers have also listed various items stored at their respective premises and locations such as North Airport Road, Industrial Area, Kanyonyoo Police Station, and Embakasi Police Station.

The vehicles will be auctioned publicly or through private sale if not claimed and paid for within the 30-day window, as the firms seek to recover storage, repair, and incidental costs.

If the properties remain unclaimed, auctions are expected to begin in mid-to-late May once the mandatory 14-day and 30-day notice periods expire.

Will Tuju's property be auctioned?

In other news, former Cabinet secretary Raphael Tuju secured a temporary reprieve from the High Court halting the auction of his multi-billion shilling properties in Karen.

This came amid a prolonged legal battle with the East African Development Bank (EADB) over a disputed KSh 4.5 billion loan.

Justice Josephine Mongare extended earlier orders barring EADB and Garam Investments Auctioneers from selling the properties, which include Dari Business Park and Entim Sidai Wellness Sanctuary, while Tuju’s lawyers challenge their valuation and the legality of the attempted sale.

Tuju also issued a cease-and-desist notice to Ultra Eureka Limited, which claims to have acquired one of the properties, accusing it of harassing tenants and violating court orders.
