The government has secured funding from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank for the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project (HoAGWRP).
The ministry is looking to build capacity in the water sector and promote groundwater management in arid and semi-arid regions.
The internship is part of the broader HoAGWRP project, which targets 12 counties in Kenya, including among them Garissa, Isiolo, Kitui, Mandera, Marsabit, and Turkana.
The programme will run for 12 non-renewable months, with interns deployed in relevant counties and project-related institutions.
"Interns will be deployed to different institutions and counties implementing the HoAGWRP Project for hands-on experience and mentorship. The project implementing institutions will provide workspaces and assign mentors to guide the interns through the training period. The internship is a full-time program and the interns will be required to strictly observe the working hours of the host institution," read the notice in part.
What are the duties of the interns?
Interns will support the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project by assisting in project implementation and administrative tasks.
They will participate in monitoring and evaluation activities, support technical studies and knowledge-sharing efforts, and engage in stakeholder coordination and documentation.
They will also be required to prepare reports and contribute to project communications, gaining valuable hands-on experience in water resource management, policy implementation, and professional development within the sector.
What is the eligibility criteria?
The internship is open to Kenyan citizens aged 18 to 35 years who have completed a bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as:
- Water resources management

- Hydrology, hydroeconomics, or related areas
Applicants must have graduated no more than two years before the application date and should demonstrate strong analytical, communication, and team-working skills.
