In a notice to the public on Wednesday, July 9, the authority revealed that the move will be undertaken to facilitate interview surveys and data collection ahead of the construction of the highways.

"We seek to inform the public on possible traffic disruption along the Nairobi - Nakuru - Mau Summit (A8) Road and the Nairobi - Maai Mahiu - Naivasha (A8 South) Road from Thursday, July 10, 2025, to Sunday, July 20, 2025. This is to facilitate scheduled interview surveys and data collection," read the notice to the public in part.

Will motorists be involved in KeNHA survey?

KeNHA added that motorists plying the routes will be required to stop and share their journey details during the study exercise.

The survey seeks to collect data including Axle Load Surveys, Origin-Destination Surveys, Camera-Based Classified Cross-Sectional, and Turning Movement counts.

KeNHA appealed to motorists and other road users to cooperate with the police and traffic marshals during the exercise.

Who is carrying out road survey?

The announcement came after KeNHA and the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Committee approved proposals received in May 2025.

One of the proposals was from a consortium of China Road and Bridge Corporation, Kenya, and the National Social Security Fund(NSSF).

The other proposal was received from Shandong Hi Speed & Road & Bridge International Engineering Co. Ltd.

On Wednesday, July 2, KeNHA approved the two privately initiated proposals to proceed to the project development phase.

The authority revealed that it received another proposal from Multiplex Partners Co. Ltd, which was still under review.

  • The Nairobi-Mau Summit dual road is expected to be constructed at an estimated cost of KSh 170 billion, part of which President William Ruto secured during his visit to Beijing in April 2025
  • Kenyans will be required to pay toll fees for 30 years in repayment for the Chinese loan used in the construction of the Nairobi-Mau Summit dual road

How much will NSSF invest in road construction?

TUKO.co.ke reported that the NSSF planned to invest in 50% of the road project under a consortium of China Road and Bridge Corporation.
