In a statement released after the signing ceremony held at the Kenya Institute of Special Education, TSC confirmed that the new deal includes salary increments of up to 29.5% across all teaching cadres, with the changes taking effect from July 1, 2025.

"After the long journey of detailed and thorough negotiations, we are delighted to inform our more than 400,000 teachers that we have a CBA deal for the period 2025-2029, which we have signed with the elected representatives of KNUT, KUSNET, and KUPPET today," TSE said in the statement.

New salary scales for teachers

The revised basic salary structure shows that teachers in the lowest grade (B5) will now earn between KSh 28,620 and KSh 37,100 per month, while those at the highest grade (D5) will receive between KSh 135,321 and KSh 167,415.

The aim, according to TSC chairperson Jamleck Muturi, is to narrow the wage gap between entry-level and senior teachers while motivating educators across the board.

TSC noted that the first phase of the CBA will cost the government KSh 8.4 billion to cover both salaries and allowances.

In addition, over KSh 1.2 billion will go towards employer contributions to the teachers’ pension scheme and other statutory deductions.

Notably, the new CBA also stipulates that teachers who are dismissed from service will be entitled to their pensions and that lactating teachers will be given breaks while in school to attend to their infants.

How many teachers will the govt employ?
