In July 2025, KQ announced it was reviving its grounded Dreamliner aircraft to boost its operations.

The airline said it will grow its passenger seats by 528 after it acquires additional aircraft in September 2025.

2. Ethiopian Airlines

According to Business Insider, Ethiopian Airlines is the leading airline with the largest fleet.

The national carrier has 165 aircraft and serves different parts of the continent and the international community.

3. EgyptAir

EgyptAir is the national carrier for Egypt and has 58 aircraft. It is the second largest in Africa in terms of capacity.

What's the performance of Kenya Airways

Meanwhile, KQ emerged as a winner during the Global Aviation Challenge 2024 organised by the SkyTeam.

The airline won two prestigious awards, Best Scaled Catering Solution and Best Approach to Scaling Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Kenya Airways Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Allan Kilavuka said the awards demonstrate the airline's commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Kilavuka noted that by embracing sustainable aviation fuel, reducing single-use plastics, and fostering collaboration across teams, we are driving meaningful change for the aviation industry and our planet.

KQ also received other awards, which include Best Team Collaboration for the Sustainability Champions program and Best Climate Literacy for the multi-level sustainability training programs.
