This is in response to a photo making rounds on social media, which suggests that Broadways and Festive are sister bread companies operating in Kenya.

Customers raised eyebrows following the shared contact details spotted on both brand packages, raising questions over the companies' ownership.

In response via LinkedIn, Broadways Group Chief Marketing Officer, Devan B Shah, dismissed the claims, noting that the two companies are not in any way related.

"Broadway Bakery Limited, the manufacturers and owners of Broadways Bread, is NOT in any way associated with any of our competitors in the bread market, including DPL Festive, the manufacturers of Festive Bread," said Shah.

Shah urged customers and interested parties to carry out a thorough search at the registry of companies to ascertain the ownership.

According to Statista, Supa Loaf, Festive, and Broadways are the top bread brands in Kenya, with a rich customer base and strong presence in the market.

Who owns Broadways and Festive bread brands?

Broadways Bakery Limited was founded by two brothers, the late Sobhagchand Shah and Ratilal Shah, before the country attained its independence.

In 1968, two siblings, Dalichand and the late Chunilal, joined the business. They approached Unga Ltd (formerly Elliots Bread) for a distribution partnership.

The Festive brand is produced by DPL Festive LTD, which was founded in the year 2000 in Nairobi.

The company is headed by Dipesh Shah, who has been the chief executive officer (CEO) of the company for 24 years since its establishment in 2000.

Other bread brands in the country are:

  • BB bread - produced by Bakemark Limited, which was established in June 2016 in Nairobi by Bakor and Badru.
  • Kingsmill bread - produced by Kenafric Bakeries LTD, headed by Keval Shah as the chief executive officer (CEO).
  • Supa Loaf - produced by Mini-Bakers Limited, which was established in 1970 by Nurzakhanu Akberali Manji and her husband, Akberali Manji.
  • Kenblest, Loafa and Selecta, as well as supermarket brands such as Quickmart, Cleanshelf, and Naivas breads.
