Ministry of Information Announces Vacancies at Media Council of Kenya, Requirements

The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, led by Cabinet Secretary (CS) William Kabogo Gitau, has announced four vacancies for member positions at the Media Council of Kenya.

In an advertisement published in the government newspaper, MyGov, on Tuesday, July 29, the ministry noted that candidates must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

"Qualified candidates are invited to apply for the post. The applications shall be forwarded to the selection panel pursuant to section 7(3) of the act within seven days of the publication of this notice," the ministry stated.

What are the requirements for candidates?

Candidates must be citizens of Kenya.

Applicants should hold a degree from an accredited institution in the country.

Candidates must have knowledge and experience of at least 10 years in the following disciplines:

  • Law.
  • Journalism.
  • Finance.
  • Gender and human rights.
  • Performing arts.
  • Advertising.
  • Public relations.
  • Religious studies.
  • Communication.
  • Humanities and social sciences.
  • Information Technology (IT).

The ministry encouraged women, persons with disabilities, people from minority and marginalised groups to apply.

What's the application process for MCK jobs?

A thorough curriculum vitae, copies of pertinent professional and academic credentials, testimonials, and other supporting documentation should be included with all applications, both online and in paper form.

The online application must be submitted with scanned copies.

Candidates should include a copy of their passport or national identity card.

According to section 7(7) of the Media Council Act, the names of all applicants and those who make the short list will be posted on the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology's website, in the Kenya Gazette, and at least two nationally distributed daily newspapers.

Who will not qualify?

Members of Parliament (MPs) or the County Assembly (MCAs) are not eligible for the roles.

Others who will be disqualified are officials of a political party, bankrupt Kenyans and those who have been convicted of a felony.

You will also be disqualified if you have been removed from office for violating the Constitution or any other written law.

Which other institutions advertised jobs?

In related news, the Public Service Commission announced the recruitment of interns in diverse fields on a one-year contract.

PSC established a deadline for submitting academic certificates and provided interested and qualified applicants with an explanation of the application process.

At the same time, SBM Bank advertised middle and senior-level positions for degree holders.
