What are the requirements for TSC intern positions?

The commission said the internship positions will be offered for 12 months.

"The Teacher Intern is a one-year programme meant to equip and sustain the competencies of persons entering the teaching service. The programme targets unemployed registered teachers to be assigned to learning institutions where their teaching experience will be enhanced," read the TSC advert in part.

Below are the key requirements for the teacher intern position.

The applicant should be:

  • A Kenyan citizen;
  • A holder of at least a diploma in education with a minimum mean Grade of C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in two teaching Subjects in KCSE or its equivalent.
  • A registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.

What you should know before applying for TSC intern jobs

  1. TSC applies the Guidelines for Recruitment of Teacher Interns for the 2025/2026 Financial Year
  2. TSC does not allow manual applications.
  3. Have original academic and professional certificates before applying.
  4. Have a Personal Accident Insurance cover for personal risks during the internship period.
  5. The selection of Candidates will strictly be on merit and based on the number of vacancies per County
  6. Successful candidates will be posted to serve at any junior school in the sub-county where they were interviewed or in any part of the County where the vacancy exists.
  7. Successful candidates shall be required to teach various learning areas under the Junior School Curriculum.
  8. The application portal will be opened on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 and close on Monday, September 9, 2025.
  9. The recruitment exercise is free of charge and open to all suitably qualified and interested candidates, including people living with disabilities.

TSC intern's stipend

TSC said it will offer qualified candidates a monthly stipend of KSh 20,000.

The amount will be subject to statutory deductions where applicable for the period of the internship programme.

The announcement came after the Teachers Service Commission implemented the July 2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

What's the current salary for teachers

The commission agreed to pay teachers in the lowest grade (B5) between KSh 28,620 and KSh 37,100 per month.

Grade C1 teachers were supposed to receive a minimum pay of KSh 36,336 and a maximum pay of KSh 47,261.

However, teachers raised concerns after receiving a minimum salary of KSh 28,491 in the July payslip.
