Who won the SportPesa Mega Jackpot?

The 14 Games Mega Jackpot has been won barely a week after Bonnie Kamau bagged KSh 424 million in the 17 games mega jackpot.

Kamau, a clerk who has worked diligently for years, became a millionaire after winning a record-breaking KSh 424,660,618 SportPesa Mega Jackpot, the largest in the country’s history.

Kamau staked KSh 500 on 17 football matches, a routine he said he had maintained for over a decade.

He learnt of his victory through a call from SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri. Despite his life-changing windfall, Kamau remained calm at work and even teased his wife about the win before revealing the full amount.

During his unveiling, he shared plans to resign from his clerk job, take a vacation as advised by his mother, and later make investment decisions.

While he welcomed advice from many quarters, he stressed the importance of responsible gambling, cautioning Kenyans to only bet after meeting essential needs.

Other Kenyans who won jackpots

Before Kamau, over 25 other Kenyans had won the mega jackpot as well as other jackpots. Samuel Abisai became the pioneer mega jackpot winner in 2017 with KSh 221.3 million.

He was followed by Gordon Ogada in 2018 with KSh 230.7 million and Cosmas Korir, who bagged KSh 208.7 million later that year.

Other notable winners who walked away with millions include Alfred Madanji, who won KSh 81.2 million in 2017, and Elimah Khanaitsa, the first woman to win a SportPesa jackpot with KSh 22 million in 2016.

Several other Kenyans shared millions in midweek and standard jackpots, such as Morris Mutuku, Justus Nyaanga, and Philip Bargoria, each taking home KSh 9 million in 2016.

How did Kenyans react to the mega jackpot win?

Kamau’s win triggered nationwide excitement, with Kenyans flooding social media with congratulatory messages, skepticism, and humour.

The reactions following the huge win prompted SportPesa to reassure the public with the statement “malipo ni instant.”

The betting firm reassured the public that the company had the money to payout the rewards to the jackpot winner.
