This followed reports claiming that Kenyans bought all the tickets for the CHAN match between Tanzania and Morocco.

How much are Tanzania match tickets in Kenyan shillings?

A ticket for the Tanzanian clash with Morocco cost TSh 2,000, which a Kenyan fan claimed to have bought tickets worth TSh 200,000.

According to the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), Tanzanian shilling exchanged at TSh 19.38 per Kenyan shilling on Friday, August 22, ahead of the match.

This means every ticket bought in Kenyan shillings costs KSh 103.19.

However, Tanzania President Samia Suluhu dismissed the claims that Kenyans bought all the tickets, assuring supporters that no such scheme had taken place.

Suluhu's administration noted that every supporter who wished to attend would be able to access the stands.

However, on Friday, August 22, the Tanzanian shilling lost against the Kenyan currency to trade at KSh 19.38.

In June 2025, the Tanzanian shilling recovered from the world's worst-performing currency.

Bloomberg reported that the TZS appreciated by 1% to trade at 2,588.12 against the US dollar, marking a 3.7% gain.

Why Tanzanian shilling regains value

This followed measures employed by President Samia Suluhu's administration.

The Bank of Tanzania officially banned the use of foreign currencies, including the US dollar, for all local transactions in an effort to stabilise the weakening shilling.

Suluhu enacted new foreign exchange regulations that required all goods and services to be priced and paid for exclusively in Tanzanian shillings.
