The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) defaced the old generation banknotes, removing them from circulation in 2019.
However, the majority of Kenyans who did not beat the October deadline of exchanging the notes still hold hundreds and millions of the KSh 1,000 banknotes.
Kenyan lady offers to buy old KSh 1 banknotes
A business lady took to Facebook, offering to buy the KSh 1,000 banknotes, as from KSh 10 million.
"I'm looking for the old KSh 1,000 banknote... buying from 10 million... willing seller, willing buyer," Ruth Abbie wrote.
The lady also shared a phone number where potential sellers of the notes could reach her.
The Facebook post caught the attention of many Kenyans, with some sharing the number of the banknotes they have.

In March 2024, a man surprised many after sharing a bundle of old one-thousand-shilling banknotes.
The man sought advice from Kenyans on where to sell or dispose of the money after the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) exchange window closed.
Is CBK changing banknotes?
Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) introduced changes to the new generation banknotes.
In November 2024, CBK noted that the changes were made on various currency denominations, including the KSh 50, KSh 100, KSh 200, KSh 500 and KSh 1,000 banknotes.
The banking regulator clarified that all banknotes currently in circulation remain legal tender and will circulate alongside the released banknotes.
The bank added that the new banknotes will bear the signatures of the governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, Kamau Thugge, and Treasury PS Chris Kiptoo.
The banknotes will also have security threads with colour-changing effects that are specific to each denomination.
