Radisson Blue Hotel&Residence Nairobi Arboretum is planning to invest KSh 1.4 billion in expansion plans as it position itself to tap into the nascent tourism business in Kenya.

The hotel, that initially opened its door to the public in 2020 said the money will go into building a new block adjacent to the present facility along Arboretum Drive.
It is a requisite by the Kenyan government to carry out environmental impact assessment on projects of heavy spending.
"The proposed project aims to supplement the existing hotel by providing more affordable, modern , and easily accessible accommodation and conference facilities, both for local and international guests," Leisure Park Development Limited says in a report submitted to National Environmental Management Authority.
Radisson Blue Hotel&Residence expensive project
The proposed expansion will involve the construction of hotel block consisting of two basement floors, two lower ground levels, ground floor and three upper floors with eighty new guest rooms, indoor and outdoor restaurants, four ballrooms.
The facility will also have four exhibition spaces, four meeting rooms, four board rooms, multipurpose hall, a gym, spa and changing rooms, and three hundred and 328 parking spaces and other associated amenities and facilities.
The expansion of the facility will mean that more guests will be accommodated at Radisson Blue Hotel&Residence Nairobi Arboretum.
It will also means that that the hotel is casting its nets wide to tap into the growing number of tourists flocking into Kenya daily.
Kenyan tourism sector growth
The tourism sector in Kenya has been experiencing remarkable growth, with latest statistics stating that Kenya received 2.4 million international visitors in 2024, representing a 15% growth from the previous year.
In terms of earnings, the sector has seen a substantial rise in inbound tourism revenue, which increased from Ksh 377.49 billion in 2023 to 452.20billion, representing a 19.79% growth.rce market, contributing 12.8% of total arrivals (306,501 visitors) followed by Uganda (9.4 % ) and Tanzania (8.4%).

In terms of earnings, the sector has seen a substantial rise in inbound tourism revenue, which increased from KSh 377.49 billion in 2023 to KSh 452.20 billion, representing a 19.79% growth.
The domestic market tourism sector recorded an impressive gain as well. The data shows that bed occupancy rose 12% from 4.6 million in 2023 from 5.1 million in 2024.
How many new hotels invested in Kenya?
The growth in tourism numbers in Kenya is coming at a time TUKO.co.ke reported that a new report shows that 31 new hotels were planning to join Kenya in 2024, adding 4,268 rooms .
This is a clear indication that the sector, which was hit hard by COVID-19 economic economic effect is continuing to rebound amid the country's rising visitor numbers.
