Why will Treasury host budget event?

The ministry explained that the launch event is anchored in the constitution of Kenya.

"The launch is anchored in Article 201 of the Constitution and Section 35(2) of the Public Finance Management Act (Cap. 412A), which emphasizes the principles of transparency, accountability, and public participation in the management of public finances," Treasury said.

Who can attend the budget event at KICC?

Treasury noted that the event is open to all members of the public and will provide an opportunity to engage on the country's financial priorities.

Additionally, the proceedings will be streamed live on the National Treasury’s official social media platforms on X, Facebook, and TikTok to provide more access to the public.

Kenya's 2025/26 budget

The event at KICC comes following the completion of a year long budget process for the financial year 2025/26.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi on Thursday, June 12, 2025, presented Kenya’s KSh 4.29 trillion budget for the 2025/26 financial year to the national parliament.

The budget was themed “Stimulating Sustainable Economic Recovery for Improved Livelihoods, Job Creation, Business, and Industrial Prosperity in Line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.”

Out of the total allocation, KSh 3.1 trillion was allocated to recurrent expenditure and KSh 693.2 billion to development.

Winners in budget allocatins

Key winners in the budget include the Ministry of Agriculture, which received KSh 47.6 billion, the Hustler Fund with an additional KSh 300 million, and the Ministry of Defence with KSh 202.3 billion, alongside new allocations for the National Police Service.

However, education lost KSh 5.9 billion in school capitation and KSh 600 million from the feeding programme, while the Universal Health Coverage scheme saw its allocation reduced to KSh 124.5 billion.

President William Ruto’s office, the State House, and the Deputy President’s office all received slight budget increases despite the heavy strain of a growing public expenditure and the debt burden.
