The book delves into Thuranira's early life in Isiolo and Meru, his initial work experiences, and the challenges he overcame to establish a successful real estate enterprise.
In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Thuranira narrated his story – how he was raised by his grandparents in Meru, and his early exposure to business came from working at his uncle's wholesale shop during high school.
After graduating from Utalii College in 1998, he moved to the United States in 2000 to study aviation in Orlando, Florida.
To support himself, he took on construction jobs and eventually obtained a realtor's license in Texas in 2002.
This hands-on experience, combined with his formal education, laid the foundation for his future ventures. Upon returning to Kenya during the 2008-2009 recession, he began investing in real estate, establishing a presence in Mombasa, Nairobi, and Meru.
Through Myspace Properties, Thuranira has been instrumental in popularizing the strip mall concept in Kenya, introducing developments like Danka Plaza in Kitengela and Mytown Malls across various cities.
What’s the aim of Thuranira’s book
Taking Up Space aims to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs by detailing Thuranira's challenges and triumphs in building a successful real estate enterprise.
The book emphasises the importance of mentorship, resilience, and continuous learning. Thuranira advises young entrepreneurs to start small, embrace mentorship, and network extensively.
The book will be available for purchase starting May 30, with details on distribution channels to be announced soon.
