Thuranira launched Taking Up Space after four years of writing the book, which details his journey from a humble beginning to the CEO of MySpace, a leading real estate firm in Kenya.

Why Thuranira wrote the book

Speaking during the launch at the Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi on Friday, May 30, Thuranira referred to the book as 'a piece of my heart', describing his journey from a mjengo worker to a leading real estate entrepreneur.

"Taking up space is not just a collection of chapters; it is a piece of my heart. From the dusty paths of Meru and Isiolo, to American construction sites, to the boardrooms of MySpace properties and now this moment," said Thuranira.

Thuranira noted that he wrote the book to honour the raw, messy and unfiltered journey of becoming.

"I did not write these to celebrate perfection. I wrote this book because I know what it feels like to be underestimated, to carry a vision in a world that is not ready for it, but I also know what happens when you refuse to shrink, when you choose, despite the odds, to take up space," he said.

Who are Thuranira's target audiences?

The realtor hoped that the book would reach young people, deep in rural Kenya, a father who has lost hope in business, a millennial navigating to jump from one job to another, or a bold innovator angry to go global.

"This isn't just a book, it is a journey filled with hope, mixed with tears, love mixed with aura, determination mixed with doubts, and focus mixed with faith," the CEO explained.

Thuranira applauded his wife, Vennesa Magiri, and family for their love and sacrifice to support the journey.

Magiri noted that the book describes the journey of a boy who believed in his voice, vision and value.

"This book is about a boy from Meru who dared to believe his voice, vision and value. It is not just pen and paper, it is a mark for every young Kenyan who has ever been told you are dreaming too big. Mwenda, I'm so proud of you for taking up space, for owning your truth, for turning the pages of your past into the beacon of your future. I bless you, Mwenda," said Magiri.
