  • A man decided to take refuge in one of the most awkward places during the heated demos in the capital city
  • The man was also holding a candle in one hand, leaving many to question what exactly led him to such a place
  • While some found it hilarious, others felt it was uncalled for, as he was clout chasing

On Wednesday, June 25, Kenyans went to the streets to protest against police brutality and commemorate those lost in June 2024.

Man hides inside Nairobi County dustbin

Amid the chaos, one man sought refuge in the most unusual place possible: a street dustbin.

A video went viral showing the man inside the metal structure with a Kenyan flag wrapped around his head.

The man was also holding a lit candle, seemingly in honour of those who passed away during the Reject Finance Bill protest in 2024.

The man said he was afraid of stepping out of the bin, adding he would be a target for police brutality.

He nearly screamed, saying he was worried that he might be 'finished', and demanded that Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja block goons from accessing the city.

"Sahi tunaogopa kutoka huko inje ni balaa kabisa. Hata naskia kulia. Sijui nifanye nini, sujiu kama watatumaliza," he said.

He was also shown a live bullet casing, and he noted that it would destroy someone's life.

While some found the video worrying, others called him out for being a clout chaser. For some, they waited for what the county's environment prefect, Geoffrey Mosiria, had to say.

Geoffrey Mosiria speaks after dustbins are vandalised

Just a few days back, Mosiria was outraged after the newly installed dustbins were destroyed during protests.

This was during the demos held to demand justice over Albert Ojwang's death, where property belonging to the county was destroyed.

While inspecting the CBD, Mosiria condemned those who vandalised the dustbins, adding that despite people's right to protest, destruction of property such as the bins was a criminal offence.

He said some of the individuals would later sell the bins for cheat as scrap metal, which undermines the objective of such demos.

He wondered how Nairobians would then blame Governor Johnson Sakaja's administration over the garbage menace, when goons sabotage their plans.

Mosiria demanded that people not complain and wait for the following financial year to get new bins, and also avoid complaining when they find dirt in Nairobi city.
