The new trend sees users leak emotional and brutally honest breakup WhatsApp chats, all set to the backdrop of Lorde’s song, Man of the Year.

What is ‘Man of the Year’ trend?

The challenge features a poignant line from the song, “Let’s give it up for the man of the year," which TikTokers are now using to mock or satirise their failed relationships.

Users are digging up breakup texts and airing their heartbreaks, savage replies, and awkward confessions in the form of screenshots layered over the audio.

What kind of breakups are being shared?

The messages range from hilariously petty to painfully raw.

Here are just a few standouts that have caught attention online:

One user identified as Amani shared a WhatsApp message from their ex, who tried to initiate a soft breakup with:

“Jokes aside, Amani mimi naoina tukuwe tu friends juu sasa what are we doing for real? Mara makasiriko, mara hatuongei, mara ndio hio kupatana ni shida, mara ndio hao tunafanyana jealous. Hadi lini? Na long distance ulisema haiwezi."

Amani did not respond; she just blocked him.

Another user, Darlene, confronted her partner about cheating, to which he casually replied:

“Cause I obviously didn’t want to. I’m sorry, I love you.”

User Tinky expressed that she felt the relationship was off, her partner replied:

“Bro I’m done… God was freestyling in the dark when he made you.”

Relebogile, on her part, was met with insults when she confronted her lover.
