The viral video, which was taken at the requiem service for the late Briget Njoki at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Kiambu County, has sparked a debate on social media about whether the politician was really asleep or just caught at a bad time by the camera.

Did Fred Matiang'i doze off in church?

Matiang'i was seen sitting calmly in the pews throughout the ceremony, along with other well-known politicians, including Eugene Wamalwa, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and Cleophas Malala.

Some Kenyans joked that the former CS was overwhelmed by the ongoing sermon or had 'political fatigue,' but others came to his defence and stated that the video might have been taken out of context or made to look worse than it was because of the camera perspective.

He is no stranger when it comes to church matters. In the past, people have seen him take part in services and even lead hymns of praise, which surprised and impressed the people who were there.

In 2018, the no-nonsense, tough-speaking politician showed his more human side, a humble servant of Christ, when he led a congregation through a hymn in Ekegusii.

The politician is a staunch Adventist, and he proved to be a good singer.

The video gave a light-hearted element to an otherwise sad event, reminding Kenyans that their leaders are also human.
