Kipchumba Murkomen says most youthful netizens are on drugs
Speaking during a church service on Sunday, March 30, at AIC Makutano, Murkomen claimed that most young people who write hateful messages on social media are struggling with mental health.
The politician said that the situation is caused by abuse of drugs, including alcohol, which leads them to share hateful comments.
He said the young people are extremely destroyed and don't even get out of their homes as they struggle with mental health.
The comments did not go down well with many Kenyans who wondered why a whole CS would claim such without clear evidence.
Also, for many in the country, mental health is mostly due to daily struggles caused by job lack of jobs and a low social status, which has affected many youth greatly.
Eric Omondi responds to Murkomen
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on the same day, Eric wondered why the CS for Interior would say such things about Kenyan youth.
He reminded Murkomen that he was speaking about youths who were unemployed, had not paid school fees, and had had their houses locked (for failing to pay rent).
"Mnasemanga hii ni kazi yangu, this is God's work. And let them go to the church to hear the voice of the Lord," he said.
Eric recalled how he built a school structure in Turkana that was destroyed by some of the leadership in that area while, at the same time, a church that allegedly collects KSh 8 million every Sunday was donated KSh 20 million.
"Where's the priority? I have done my research. There is a school that doesn't not have a class, they are studying under the sun. Because they have Moism culture. They will never change," he added.
Here is how other Kenyans reacted to Murkomen's message:
@yusuf_mahatt said:
"Minister from a third-world country claims citizens pointing out government corruption are suffering from mental health issues. There’s nothing wrong with mental health struggles—but instead of addressing real concerns or promoting awareness, he deflects."
@JonDefChess said:
"Create jobs for the youth. Wataacha matusi."
@chingwah1234 said:
"The primary contributors to mental health issues in young people are the actions of these kinds of politicians."
@yulemrasta said:
"It's better to be a drug addict, than a murderer and a thief!"
@joshua_nyambu said:
"We are praying for Kenya leaders."
@Nuskaren said:
"He is the interior CS , why is he allowing drugs in the country?"
