Renowned media personality Jacque Maribe has penned an emotional tribute to her late friend, Captain Apollo Malowa, as the world marked World Pilots' Day on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Maribe, who shared a close friendship with the fallen pilot, took to her Instagram Stories to honour his memory and the special bond they once shared before his untimely death in 2017.
How did Apolo Malowa die?
Apollo Malowa was the pilot of the ill-fated helicopter that crashed into Lake Nakuru on the morning of October 21, 2017, claiming the lives of all five occupants on board.

The aircraft was carrying members of then Nakuru senator Susan Kihika's communication team when tragedy struck at approximately 6:37am.

According to the accident report later released, it was revealed that Malowa had failed to recognise the helicopter’s loss of altitude, excessive left banking, and proximity to obstacles, ultimately leading to the fatal crash.
The aviation community and the country at large mourned the loss of the vibrant, talented pilot who had shown immense promise in his career.

Jacque Maribe's tribute to Apollo Malowa
In her emotional series of posts, Maribe reminisced about the beautiful moments they shared, emphasising how Malowa had touched her life in ways few others had.
"Celebrating all my pilot friends today, with a special mention to my personal pilot, the late Malowa. How I miss the early morning calls that started with 'wewe igo wabi...' Keep soaring with the angels, my friend," Maribe captioned one of the throwback photos she shared.
In another touching post featuring a photo of the two together, she wrote:
"You are missed my friend. You made the skies my home every day and I loved it. Apollo Malowa."
Continuing to pour her heart out, Maribe added:
"Always had my back in the background... we had so many plans to conquer the skies, my friend Malowa."
She concluded with a warm, personal note that revealed the depth of their friendship:
"Marioovo!! My forever cold sports drink provider, my laugh buddy, the life and laugh of our group, we remember you."
The posts captured the grief and love Maribe still holds for her late friend, offering a glimpse into the camaraderie, loyalty, and dreams they once shared.
Malowa’s death was a devastating blow not only to his close friends and family but also to Kenya’s aviation industry, which lost one of its promising young talents.
