The comedian seems to have missed some big opportunities in his life, but looking at where he is now, he would agree that it might have been for the best.
Oga Obinna on asking for big salary
Speaking on Hot 96, Obinna disclosed that he was meant to replace Jalang'o on the breakfast show at the same station.
He was to become Jeff Koinange's co-host, and this was after he had left another radio job.
Obinna said the interviews for the co-host included him and other big names at that time in radio.
"Jalas had just left, so they brought a bunch of us over here. So myself, I think Ofweneke, Chipukeezy, Prof Hamo, the whole shebang. I think we did two or three days with Jeff and I won," he said.
When it came to negotiations, Obinna revealed he used to earn around KSh 120,000 from his previous job and asked advice from Captain Otoyo.
Otoyo advised him to look at Jalang'o's previous salary and use it as a basis for negotiation.
"Hapo ndo naona tulichoma. Otoyo akaniambia ukienda ku negotiate, waambie, unajua kuna mtu alikuwa hapa na alikuwa analipwa kiwango flani. Tukiangalia Jalas alikuwa analipwa 1 million, sasa usiitishe one million, alafu pia usirudi chini sana. Itisha hapo kati kati," he said.
Obinna said that during the negotiation with the bosses, he was asked how much he would like to be paid, and he asked what they were working with.
"Nikawaambia, you guys can tell me what you're working with then we can negotiate. It's a scam, ukiwai ambia usiogope, toka mbio," he said.
Obinna said he wanted to be paid KSh 500,000, but started at KSh 700,000 to allow for negotiations.
He thought they had agreed to his terms and even thought he sold himself short, only for Monday to come and realise that Hamo was in the studio with Jeff Koinage as a team.
