What did Edward Kwach’s mother say about him?

His grieving mother admitted that she was heartbroken while sharing the close bond they had.

“Where do I even begin? It still feels like a bad dream. This is, without a doubt, the toughest thing I have ever had to do in my life.
I remember the day I was to deliver you at Nairobi Hospital. I drove myself there. The nurses could not believe I was in labour. I was still holding my keys and my handbag. They rushed me in. Your dad was abroad on a trip,” she said.

The heartbroken mom also disclosed that they shared a birthday with her granddaughter while recounting the last time they celebrated the special day.

“Me, you, and Zola always celebrated our birthdays together on the 27th of March. This year was no different. We talked for a long time, laughed as we always do. But little did I know that you would not be here with us within a month.”

Kwach’s mom disclosed that he never answered her back and never called her "mum."

“You never called me mummy. You called me 'the queen' or 'jabber,'" she said, overcome with emotion.

She admitted that Kwach’s brothers thought she favoured him, but he was special to her.

“You were not just my son but my best friend. You never answered me back. You would tell me, ‘Don’t shout at me, or you’ll spoil my voice, and you know my voice is money.’ You would smile and call me jaber. Every day goes on, but nothing is the same. There's an emptiness inside me that I cannot put into words.
Words fail me. I am overwhelmed with sorrow knowing I will never hear your voice on the radio. Your legacy lives on in our memories forever.”
