Confusion between Ruth Moraa and Jerusha Muthoni
The first beneficiary of the new estate was Jerusha Muthoni, who was seen during the launch sharing moments with Ruto and wearing a promotional t-shirt of the affordable housing initiative.
As of Wednesday, May 23, Citizen TV reported that Jerusha was the only person who had moved into the estate.
However, some Kenyans mistakenly believed that another woman seen with Ruto in August 2024, Moraa, was the same person as Jerusha.
Who is Ruth Moraa?
Moraa became famous after she received presidential support in August 2024, including getting electricity and a posho mill in her home area in Kisii.

Ruth Moraa sets record straight
In a video released by the presidential press team and seen by TUKO.co.ke, Moraa addressed the confusion directly.
She confirmed her identity and denied being the Mukuru estate beneficiary.
She said:
"Mimi naitwa Ruth Moraa. This is my place. President Ruto helped me to get electricity and gifted me this posho mill. I also saw that woman (Jerusha Muthoni) being handed a house in the Mukuru Estate by the president. I'm not sure if she comes from Kakamega or Kisii, but she is not me. People claiming she is me should stop lying. That's a campaign to spoil his votes. To President Ruto, I also need a house in Nairobi. Call me."
Sharing the video on social media, Dennis Itumbi wrote:
"Ruth Moraa claps back at claims comparing her to Jerusha Muthoni, who just received a Mukuru house. Some of you still can’t wrap your heads around the fact that President Ruto has actually delivered on the Bottom-Up promise — moving real hustlers from slums to decent estates. Critic if you must, but stick to facts. Wacheni uongo ya bei rahisi."
Mukuru residents to pay KSh 2,800 for bedsitters
Under a government rent-to-own scheme, over 1,000 residents who have moved into the new affordable housing units in Mukuru Kwa Njenga will pay a total of KSh 3,000 monthly.
This payment is designed to be similar to what many residents in informal settlements were already paying, but with the added advantage of eventual home ownership.
The Principal Secretary explained that the amount includes a heavily subsidised KSh 1,000 service charge and an additional KSh 200 for insurance.
