Bishop Kathy Kiuna has recalled how she and her late husband Allan Kiuna helped pay fees for a woman with seven children.

Kathy gave a powerful lesson on not giving handouts during a discussion with her daughter, Vanessa, on Chats with Mum and Vee.
Kathy Kiuna bought land for family
The preacher recalled a woman visiting her, and her late husband seeking financial help.
She and the late Kiuna took the woman's seven kids to school. After the kids finished school, they decided to build a house for the family.
"Somebody came to me some years back, and they had many children, and my husband and I took them to school. They were seven. We took all of them to school. They all finished school. When they finished school, I was like, let's build a home for this person. You know, change their lives forever and build them a house I would live in. A three-bedroom house with a servant's quarters. You know, we furnished it and gave everything," she said.
The lady bishop said she thought the woman was financially sorted since she could rent the servants' quarters.
Kathy also ensured that a borehole was drilled for them so that they could sell water and earn some income.
"I thought they were sorted. You know, the servants' quarters, they could rent them out and make money. I dug a well for them so that they could sell water to their neighbours. There were people making lots of sales by selling water. Now they are not paying rent, the house is free. They are landowners and business owners," she said.
The preacher said that the woman never stopped asking for handouts. It was a wake-up call for her.

Kathy noted that the woman and her children were planning to always seek financial help despite her elevating her status.
"Do you know that they never stopped begging and borrowing? They called me every day. At first, I was helping, and then I thought this wasn't helping; it was enabling. The plan was for it to never help. They were doing well in the business, but they wanted to continue because the handouts were easy money. I saw this was never going to end. The plan was for it never to end," she said.
She learnt the hard way that handouts were not beneficial.
"It was a lesson to me that handouts are not good because they disempower the person. You actually make them hopeless because everything is done. Where we built the house has land. We are talking about entitlement. They were so entitled until I sat them down and told them, 'I will never give you a coin," she added.
