The young boy, who recently turned 13, found his way into Sonko’s family under the most heart-wrenching circumstances.
In 2014, Kenya was shaken by a terrorist attack at Joy Jesus Repentance church in Likoni, Mombasa.
The attack left six people dead, including Satrine’s mother, who lost her life shielding him from the bullets.
A bullet tore through her and lodged into Satrine’s skull, leaving the infant in critical condition.
A haunting image of then-13-year-old Gift Osinya cradling his wounded 18-month-old brother touched the hearts of many, including Sonko, who took both boys under his wing and raised them as his own.

He recounted the harrowing incident and the journey that followed.
“Eleven years ago, while he was only 18 months old, he survived a horrific terror attack at Joy Church in Likoni, where gunmen opened fire randomly on worshippers," the politician wrote.
Sonko praised the neurosurgeons at KNH who saved his son’s life and shared pride in the young boy, now a Grade 7 pupil at St. Mary’s School.
“We wish him a happy birthday,” Sonko concluded.

Did Baby James start school?
In a recent update, Mike Sonko shared that his adopted son, James, has resumed school.
The young boy had been grieving the loss of his father, who tragically died on January 20 in a suspected robbery.
Sonko revealed that helping James settle into a new school was emotionally challenging, as the trauma had left him reluctant to return to class.
