The heartbreaking confirmation of Milly's death came during a sombre TikTok live stream hosted by her family, where relatives gathered to honour her memory and share what led to her untimely passing.
What happened to Milly wa Doc?
During the emotional livestream, Milly's aunt, identified only as Monica, disclosed that the young TikToker had been dealing with a serious health issue that began with the discovery of a cyst in her abdomen.
She was taken for surgery to remove the growth, and although the operation was deemed successful, Milly experienced heavy bleeding after the procedure.
The bleeding was so excessive that she had to undergo an emergency blood transfusion.
She seemed to be improving and was even discharged three days later to continue her recovery at home.
However, her health deteriorated soon after, as her kidneys failed and she was placed on meds while doctors prepared her for further treatment.
On Sunday, June 2, she underwent her first dialysis session. While there were early signs of improvement, her condition worsened later that night.
Despite the doctors’ efforts, Milly passed away from what appeared to be acute kidney failure.
What is acute kidney failure?
According to the Mayo Clinic and the World Health Organisation, acute kidney failure (AKF) is the most severe form of acute kidney injury (AKI).
It occurs when the kidneys suddenly lose their ability to filter waste from the blood.
This rapid decline in kidney function leads to dangerous levels of waste build-up and can be fatal if not treated in time.
What are the symptoms of AKF?
Symptoms of AKF can vary depending on the severity and underlying cause of the condition.
Common signs include decreased urine output, swelling in the legs, ankles or feet, nausea or vomiting, fatigue, and confusion.
Some individuals may also experience shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure, and in severe cases, seizures or coma.
It is important to note that these symptoms may develop suddenly and require urgent medical attention.

While not all cases of Acute Kidney Failure (AKF) are preventable, early detection and proper health management play a crucial role in reducing the risk.
According to the Mayo Clinic, some key preventive measures include getting prompt treatment for infections, effectively managing chronic illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure, staying well-hydrated, and undergoing regular medical check-ups, especially for individuals at higher risk, including older adults.

Why Milly may have lost the battle
Several factors may have contributed to Milly's tragic passing.
The significant blood loss she suffered after her surgery likely put immense stress on her kidneys, making it harder for her body to recover.
Despite timely dialysis, her kidneys may have sustained irreversible damage too quickly.
Additionally, AKF is also notoriously unpredictable, as in some cases, even with swift medical intervention, the kidneys do not regain function.
Is Milly's family seeking financial assistance?
In related news, Milly's family disclosed that she owed KSh 195,000 in unpaid rent from the last three months.
They sought assistance from the public to clear the outstanding bills.
Additionally, the family appealed for help to give Milly a befitting sendoff.
