How did Hanifa fight off goon?

Hanifa was among the protesters who took to the streets following the death of blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang while in police custody.

However, the protesters were on the receiving end after hired goons, armed with clubs, confronted them.

A distraught Hanifa announced that she had been attacked by one of the goons, who beat her up with a club and attempted to steal her phone.

"One of the goons beat me up and took my phone, and I caught his jacket trying to get my phone back as he continued to beat me. Other people joined and caught up with him. I took my phone, and he got beaten up," Hanifa said.

Footage circulating on social media shows the moment Hanifa bravely fought off the man before other protesters rushed to her rescue.

The footage of the altercation shows people running as the goons approached them.

One of the goons, wearing a white face mask and carrying a club, confronted Hanifa while robbing her. The man lifted the weapon to beat Hanifa as she valiantly fought him off.

Other protesters, including Shakira Wafula, rushed to the scene.

They beat up the man, and he dropped the club before running off.

Hanifa credited Shakira and another protester, Mwanse Ahmed, for coming to her rescue.

Kenyans on social media celebrated Hanifa’s bravery and hailed the Kenyans who rushed to help her.
