Did Felix Kiprono try to woo Malia Obama?
When former United States president Barack Obama planned his 2015 visit to Kenya, it was one for the books.
The 44th US president of black descent with Kenyan roots was visiting the country, and everyone was trying to get noticed.
Lawyer Kiprono was among the Kenyan men who made advances to Obama’s firstborn daughter, Malia, hoping to get noticed.
During an interview with KTN's Joy Doreen Bira, Kiprono shared his interest in Malia. When Doreen questioned his intentions, he claimed they were pure.
“This is a matter of coincidence; it’s not like I’m taking advantage of the opportunity. I think it’s just a good coincidence," he said.
Kiprono claimed that he was willing to part with 50 cows, 70 sheep, and 30 goats to secure Malia’s hand.
He claimed that it was a booking offer, and he had taken a liking to Obama’s daughter since 2008.
Some Kenyans criticised him, but Felix maintained that he was just ‘booking’ the then-first daughter.
Kiprono also claimed that at the time, he had not dated anyone and promised to be faithful to only her.

He hoped that Obama would visit with his children, and he claimed that he would share his hopes with the US president.
"For the record, I just want to state succinctly that the offer that I made to present for Obama was only the booking offer. This is subject to the confirmation and acceptance by the first family. Subject to confirmation when the minor reaches the legal age. The offer is just made. I will wait till the time so that I can try my luck. I came to know of the first family when I was also a minor in 2008," he said.
When he received flak for eyeing a minor, he defended himself saying:
"The Kalenjin customary law and by extension other customary laws whether the payment of the bride price or the booking offer is consistent to the constitution and municipal law and other international laws. I will be seeking interpretation. My offer is pegged to the outcome of the high court."
