How did Ojwang die?

The teacher and blogger was picked up from his family home in Kabondo Kasipul constituency, on Saturday, June 7, while having lunch together with his wife, Nevnina and son.

He was later taken to Mawego Police Station in Homa Bay, where he was held for a few hours before being taken to Nairobi.

Hours later, on Sunday, June 8, the family was informed that Ojwang had died at the Central Police Station.

An autopsy conducted by five pathologists showed that the father of one died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head and multiple injuries sustained from an assault.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) approved murder charges against Talaam, police officer James Mukhwanma, together with four other suspects linked to Ojwang's death.

What was Ojwang's last Facebook post about his parents?

The 31-year-old graduated from Pwani University two years ago, and he shared photos from his graduation, posing with his parents.

In a post he shared on his Facebook account on February 23, 2023, Ojwang thanked his parents for educating him.

In one of his photos, he could be seen helping his mother wear a graduation cap. The mother of one was jovial as she posed for a photo in the grey graduation gown with a cap.

In another photo, Ojwang posed with his father, who was wearing his grey gown and cap. The two parents were all smiles as they posed for photos.

Did William Ruto contribute towards Ojwang's funeral?

On June 16, President William Ruto called the slain blogger's father to offer his condolences.

Speaking to the media after Ruto's call, Meshack Opiyo revealed that the president had pledged KSh 2 million to support his grieving family.

The heartbroken father, who moved Kenyans mourning his only child, sharing how pained he was losing him, thanked Ruto for the support.

"Namshukuru Rais kwa kuchukua ndugu yangu. Alichagua kuchukua mzigo huu kama wake... akasema pole kwa simu yangu (I thank the president for taking my brother. He chose to take this burden as his own... he sent his condolences)," Meshack's brother shared.

Similarly, Raila Odinga also phoned Meshack to offer his condolences and pledged KSh 1 million.

When will Ojwang be buried?

Meanwhile, the slain blogger's family has confirmed that he will be buried on Friday, July 4, in Homa Bay county.

According to John Pkwanyo, the family spokesperson, Ojwang's requiem mass is scheduled for Wednesday, July 2, in Nairobi, though the venue is yet to be communicated.

He also revealed that the family had received KSh 5.6 million in contributions, including the donations from President Ruto and Raila. This is after Eric Omondi claimed Kenyans had contributed over KSh 10 million.
