Maji Maji Touched by Tassia Gen Z Shot During June 25 Protests: "Yeye Ni Breadwinner"

Ghetto Radio presenter Julius Owino, better known as Maji Maji, visited a Gen Z who was shot during the June 25 protests.

The protests, which were organised in honour of lives that were lost during the June 25, 2024, anti-finance bill protests, turned chaotic as police officers and protesters clashed, and some were shot.

Maji Maji visited 22-year-old Purity at her home and was moved by her story.

Purity was shot on Wednesday, June 25, as she was coming from work.
"I was shot here in Tassia. I was not protesting. I was coming from work," she said.

Purity's mother revealed that her daughter was their breadwinner.
"I felt so bad. This girl has been our breadwinner since I lost my job in November 2024. I have two kids. We depended on her. My mother-in-law was sick for a very long time before she passed away, and I would go to the village. She is the one who has been staying here. I don't know how long it will take for her to get back on her feet," her mother said.
Gen Z shot in both legs speaks out
When asked how she felt, Purity smiled and said she was in pain.
She revealed she was shot in both legs.
Despite the injuries, she managed to walk from the shooting scene to their house.
"I walked to this place. I didn't want to pass out on the way. I was bleeding. I didn't know it was a bullet at first. I thought I had been hit with a stone," she revealed.

"She's 22 years old and a breadwinner of her family. Stacy, while coming back from work, was shot on both legs by stray bullets in Tassia, Embakasi, during last week's June 25, 2025, protests. She had to walk to her mother's house and was later taken to KNH, but she was among the many protest victims discharged from the facility."

In other news, on Sunday, June 29, the family of Boniface Kariuki, the hawker who was shot in the head by a police officer during anti-police brutality protests in Nairobi, said he is clinically dead.
Family spokesperson Emily Wanjira shared the heartbreaking news that doctors at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) declared Kariuki brain dead, though his vital organs continue to function.

The family called on well-wishers for support, as they face a heavy financial burden due to the mounting medical costs.
Wanjira revealed that despite numerous promises of assistance from various quarters, no support has materialised, and the family is struggling to cover the increasingly expensive medical expenses.
