In a recent broadcast alongside his longtime co-host Daniel Ndambuki, better known as King’ang’i or Churchill, Maina dropped a bombshell about his future on air, suggesting that his two-decade-plus run might be coming to an end.

Is Maina Kageni leaving Classic 105?

“I don't want this job anymore. Apply for it now. What are you still doing in employment at 60? Get out of there. I should not even be here. I want young people to come here. I've been here half my life, my entire life, it's been too long. I can leave today and never come back, and I’ll be happy," he declared.

Maina didn’t stop there. In a passionate moment, he urged not just himself, but other media veterans to consider stepping aside to create room for new voices.

He name-dropped big industry players like Fred Obachi, Jeff Koinange, and even King’ang’i himself as part of a generation that should hand over the reins.

The veteran broadcaster took it a step further, tying his message to a broader call for leadership renewal in the country.

“Rigathi Gachagua, go home. William Ruto, go home! Everyone, go home. Let’s start on a clean slate, that’s how we’re going to change this country. Atwoli should have gone 50 years ago,” Maina added.

Will King'angi leave Classic 105 if Maina leaves?

As expected of any iconic radio duo, King’ang’i was not having any of it.

The comic and media personality dismissed Maina’s proposal, insisting he was not ready to hang up his boots or let go of the perks that come with the job.
