MP Kururia Threatens Muthee Kiengei after He Warned Young Politicians to Respect Elders

  • Bishop Muthee Kiengei’s fiery sermon struck a nerve as he took aim at a 35-year-old politician, warning about the decay of respect in Kenya’s political landscape
  • MP Elijah Kururia didn’t hold back, clapping back with threats to spill UK secrets, and making an unsettling claim about the preacher’s prayers
  • Tensions hit a new high as netizens picked sides, quoting Kiengei, roasting Kururia, and vice versa

A political-religious showdown appears to be brewing between Gatundu North MP Elijah Kururia and JCM’s Bishop Muthee Kiengei after the outspoken preacher indirectly called out young leaders for disrespecting elders.

During a recent sermon, Kiengei subtly took aim at the current political climate, lamenting the erosion of respect among the youth, particularly those in leadership.

What did Kiengei say about unnamed politician?

His remarks were interpreted by many as directed at Kururia, given the timing and tone.

“You can even see that now there is no more respect. That is why you can see a young politician who just left school the other day, is talking to the older politicians as if they are his age mates. A young man aged around 35 years, when he starts addressing Gachagua, he talks to him as if he is his age mate. Even if we lack respect for politicians, let's have respect for parents,” Kiengei stated in his sermon.

Though he did not name names, the message struck a nerve.

Kururia wasted no time. Taking to his Facebook page, the first-time MP fired back with a scathing rant laced with unpublishable profanities and a bold threat to expose the preacher.

“Cheza na mimi nitoe scandal ya UK. What happened in UK and back home? Dramaaa…,” he posted, in what many interpreted as a veiled warning related to Kiengei’s recent trip to the United Kingdom.

The trip had drawn attention after the preacher was seen in the company of Wanja Nyarari and several church leaders.

Kururia further belittled Kiengei’s spiritual authority, claiming his prayers “don’t even pass the clouds.”

"I am innocent," Kururia added.

His posts, which have since been deleted, stirred reactions online, with netizens divided on who crossed the line.

What did Kiengei advise William Ruto?

In another story, Kiengei advised President William Ruto to rethink his controversial plan to construct a modern church within the State House grounds.

Kiengei cautioned that the move could create division and possibly be used to discredit the church, arguing it might make Christianity appear as a state-sponsored religion in a country with diverse religious beliefs.

He noted that Kenya, while largely Christian, is also home to Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and followers of other religions, and questioned why the government would risk provoking tension by prioritising one faith.

He proposed that rather than building a church dedicated to one religion, the president should opt for a multi-faith auditorium.
