A resurfaced video of Kasey Osmwanda, the founder of Summer Tides, shed light on the festival’s humble beginnings. Kasey revealed that his passion for entertainment began early, and he started DJing at the age of 12.

Despite plans to study abroad, he decided to forgo university and instead used his tuition fees to fund his dream.

His first event, attended mostly by friends and family, was held when he was just 17. The name Summer Tides was inspired by school holidays when students would visit Diani for leisure.

Kasey hoped to attract 1,000 attendees to break even, but only sold 125 tickets during the inaugural trip.
