Women in Thika had vowed to strip because of their children, who were arrested for allegedly being rowdy during the Saba Saba protests.

What did William Ruto tell police officers?

In a different report, the president sparked reactions after giving a directive to the police to shoot violent protesters in the leg.

He condemned those who were influencing young people to hit the streets and protest, and in the process damaging people's businesses.

The president also asked people to follow the right channels if they have issues than destroy business premises.

Kenyan police came under intense scrutiny for alleged brutality, following a report by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) highlighting the high number of deaths during the recent Saba Saba protests.

His sentiments sparked mixed reactions, with many asking him to retract his remarks, as it could lead to more damage.

Elsewhere, ODM leader Raila Odinga strongly criticised Ruto's directive authorising police to disable protesters and labelled it as violent.
