In his latest skit, Njugush poked fun at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following the arrest of renowned human rights activist Boniface Mwangi.

His skit came just hours after the DCI shared a list of items allegedly recovered from Mwangi’s home and slapped him with terrorism-related charges.

A day later, the DCI released a statement claiming the arrest led to the recovery of several items, including two unused teargas canisters and one 7.62mm blank round.

These, along with a collection of electronics and documents, were listed as part of the evidence to support terrorism and ammunition possession charges against Mwangi.

Among the items recovered were nine assorted external hard drives, two laptops, company seals for Brave Media Ltd and Courage Ltd, a company stamp, six cheque books, copies of stamp duty documents, two mobile phones, a laptop, and several notebooks.

According to the DCI, Mwangi is set to be arraigned on Monday, July 21, for allegedly facilitating terrorist activities during the June 25, 2025, protests.

What did Njugush say?

Wasting no time, Njugush jumped on the trending topic with a signature satirical skit that many Kenyans found both hilarious and thought-provoking.

In the video, he parodied a DCI officer gleefully announcing the capture of a suspect and describing seemingly ordinary items as dangerous paraphernalia.

Njugush opened the skit with exaggerated ululations before mockingly listing the evidence.

“Terrorist! Terrorist! How many pens are those? Write there: 12 rounds of pens. Pens are mightier than guns. Madam, is that a bomb? Write there: she has a lip balm. Terrorist, tumekushika.”

The funnyman went further, joking about an avocado being mistaken for a communications device belonging to the government and alluding to the teargas canisters that were part of Mwangi’s alleged arsenal.

“Hio ni nini hapo? Hio ni ova? Avocado? Hio ni ova ova?”

Njugush also questioned the inclusion of electronics in the charge sheet, ridiculing the idea that imported devices were being viewed with suspicion:

The cheeky skit has resonated with Kenyans who have been questioning the manner of Mwangi’s arrest and the seriousness of the charges.

Did Njugush back Raila’s AU bid?

Previously, Njugush stirred debate online after seemingly throwing his support behind Djibouti's Mahamoud Ali Youssouf for the African Union Commission (AUC) role, rather than fellow Kenyan Raila Odinga.

In a tweet that quickly went viral, the comedian urged Africans to rally behind Djibouti’s candidate, a move that sparked mixed reactions.

While some lauded his Pan-African perspective, others questioned why a Kenyan public figure would choose not to stand with one of his own.
