Speaking at the memorial, a visibly emotional Kafengo disclosed the comedian had been battling health issues for years.
“Since 2020, he has been in and out of hospital after developing stomach complications, in particular acidity. He had been going to hospital, yes, but two months ago, the issue became more serious, and a month later, it worsened. On Friday, July 11, he went to a private hospital and was referred to a public hospital for further assistance," Kafengo narrated.
Kafengo shared that KK appeared to recover after being treated that weekend.
“He was given medical attention and put on a drip. He actually recovered like he always does. He spent that weekend with his parents here in Kirigiti while planning how to visit a public hospital on Monday. Even on Sunday, none of us thought that he would pass away because he was cheerful when we left each other.”
According to Kafengo, the two were to meet on Monday to shoot content.

How were KK Mwenyewe's last moments like?
However, before that could happen, he received a call from their director informing him that KK needed to be taken to hospital.
“He was still not in a very serious condition because he could communicate and even drink,” he recalled.
They managed to find a car and rushed him to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.
“We sat in line waiting to be attended to. As we were still waiting, I realised that our guy had gone silent. I had to call the doctor even though there was a line. When the doctor came, he informed us that the exact moment we noticed he had gone silent was when he passed away. It was so sudden," he noted while struggling to contain his grief.
Kafengo further urged supporters and well-wishers to support the family, noting that KK was living with his elderly grandmother and was the sole breadwinner, having come from a very humble background.

Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, Dr. Kevin Odhiambo, a Nairobi-based clinical psychologist, highlighted the silent battles creatives often face behind their public personas.
He noted that for many entertainers, health, especially chronic conditions, can go unnoticed due to the pressures of sustaining an image of constant cheerfulness and productivity.
“We tend to forget that comedians, like KK Mwenyewe, are human beings first. Chronic health conditions, especially those affecting the digestive system like ulcers or acidity, are often dismissed as minor until it’s too late. The culture of suppressing pain, driven by economic struggles and a desire not to ‘burden’ loved ones, is unfortunately common among creatives who come from humble backgrounds,” he told TUKO.co.ke.
Did KK Mwenyewe have a girlfriend?
KK's girlfriend, Pauline, made her first public appearance during his memorial event.
The little-known lady gave an emotional speech and almost broke down while speaking.
Dressed in a short black dress, sandals, black and white college jacket, the heartbroken lady thanked everyone who showed up for KK's memorial, praying for his soul to rest in peace. She didn't say much as she got emotional while speaking.
Pauline's short speech moved mourners, and she hurriedly went back to her seat.
Although it is unclear how long the two had dated at the time of KK's untimely death, netizens comforted her with encouraging messages.
KK's other female friend, Shilla Paula, penned a heartbreaking message to him, leaving fans wondering if they were dating.
She shared photos they had taken together, accompanied by a message that read:
"Until we meet again, my love."
It is unclear whether KK had introduced his girlfriend to his family at the time of his death.
When is KK Mwenyewe's funeral?
In a related update, Kafengo shared that KK’s burial will take place on Wednesday, July 23, at his family home in Gathiroini, Lari, Kiambu County.
He also urged well-wishers to continue supporting the late comedian’s family during this difficult time.
Many fans praised Kafengo for standing by his friend and helping ensure he receives a dignified send-off.
