Kenyans are still struggling to come to terms with the sudden death of popular comedian KK Mwenyewe, whose real name was Zakaria Kariuki.

The beloved content creator, widely known for his flawless impersonation of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, passed away while awaiting treatment for a recurring stomach condition at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.
He had reportedly battled the condition for close to five years.
What happened at KK Mwenyewe's memorial?
On Monday, July 21, fellow content creators, fans, and key players in the creative industry gathered at the Blue Springs Hotel along Thika Road to honour KK’s memory and raise funds for his final send-off.
The emotional memorial was marked by heartfelt tributes and an overwhelming show of support for his grieving family.
KK was the sole breadwinner for his family and lived with his elderly grandmother.
Among those who attended was Dennis Itumbi, Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination.
He arrived bearing generous contributions from various political leaders.
While addressing mourners, Itumbi disclosed that he had collected over KSh 500,000 from different leaders.
“When I was sitting here, Nakuru governor Susan Kihika called me and contributed KSh 200,000. My Radical team with MCAs also gave KSh 100,000. I have personally contributed KSh 100,000,” he said.
He added:
“Lari MP Mburu Kahangara, where KK will be buried, gave KSh 100,000. MP Kimani Ichung’wah pledged to call me back but has already given KSh 100,000.”
How much did William Ruto contribute to KK Mwenyewe's family?
Itumbi then revealed that President William Ruto had also joined in mourning the young comedian and had made a personal donation to support his family.
“The president, some call him Zakayo, others Kasongo, has said hata mkisema must go, and contributed KSh 1 million,” he told the crowd.
Itumbi noted that the total target had been KSh 1.2 million, and with the contributions, they had now raised over KSh 1.5 million.
He also shared plans to visit KK’s family home in Gathiroini, Lari, on Tuesday, July 22, to comfort his mother ahead of the burial set for Wednesday, July 23.

Did KK Mwenyewe have a girlfriend?
During the same memorial, a young woman identified as Pauline, who was introduced as KK Mwenyewe’s girlfriend, briefly addressed the mourners.
She was dressed in a black short dress, sandals, and a black and white college jacket.
Pauline stood visibly shaken before the crowd and expressed her gratitude for their support.
She also thanked those who had shown up to honour the late comedian, saying she had little to add but hoped his soul would rest in peace, before quietly returning to her seat.
