Mavela, a popular matatu conductor, was part of the team behind the renowned red and white PSV known as Opposite, which plies the Umoja route and has clinched the Kenya One title three consecutive times.

Sadly, he died on Friday, July 18, after being knocked down by another matatu at the Umoja stage.

Which matatu killed Mavela?

According to sources who spoke to TUKO.co.ke, the vehicle involved was Restoration, which operates on the Embakasi route.

An eyewitness described the incident as accidental, adding that the crew made every effort to save Mavela.

“They rushed him to Kenyatta National Hospital, but unfortunately, he didn’t make it,” he said.

What did Mavela say about mortuary?

As burial plans for Mavela are underway, a Facebook post of him praising Opposite resurfaced. The photo showed the matatu along a road, with Mavela standing outside the door.

He proudly carried the Kenyan flag while wearing a white outfit with red accents.

He captioned the post with lyrics from Supu Ya Pweza by Scar Mkadinali, part of the Wakadinali rap trio.

“Utangoja, ungoje ugonjeke
Ndio mi niishe utakuwa mortuary,” the lyrics go.

Scar essentially tells naysayers waiting for his downfall that they would be dead by the time his shine wanes.

Mavela used the lyrics in his Saturday, 7 December post, while urging Opposite fans to meet in town for the Kenya One battle, pointing towards invincibility.
