George, whose Mood matatu recently made a splash, first built Money Fest before rapidly expanding his fleet in September 2024 by purchasing Matrix.

The black and green PSV, inspired by the Keanu Reeves film, was a strong contender for the title of Kenya One, a term used to describe Nairobi’s top-rated matatu.

Sources confirmed that George splurged KSh 8.7 million on Matrix, but it is slowly gaining a negative reputation.

A video captured in the CBD depicted the crew of Matrix, which plies along the Embakasi route, after being stopped by the officer.

While the genesis of the incident was unclear, the clip showed the incensed officer reprimanding the crew.

The driver, who tried negotiating with the officer, was told off.

“Who are you?” the officer asked.

He instructed the driver to move the vehicle, but the driver refused.

“Okay, stay here. Don’t move this vehicle from here.”

A tout working with the vehicle was unimpressed by the officer’s instructions and got involved in the argument.

“We are working, just like you are. We are not giving you any money,” the tout said, as his team moved in to try and keep him calm.

The young man then insulted the officer before the video abruptly ended.

Kenyans on social media were unimpressed by how the crew handled the police officer, accusing them of impunity. Others called for law enforcement officers to take action against the PSV.

What did Kenyans tell Matrix matatu crew?

Muruthi Njoroge:

“Working for an expensive matatu is not a good enough reason to insult the police officer.”

Virginia Mutisya:

“Surely, even if the matatu belongs to George, respect traffic officers.”

Damir Muli:

“To the driver: You will not work for this matatu forever. You never know where you might meet this officer tomorrow with another matatu that is not George’s. The officer will show you wonders.”

Leakey Ochieng:

“Impunity, my foot.”

John Ngari:

“For the first time, I support the police officer. The drivers and crews of these matatus think they are immune to traffic laws.”

Samwel Migeke Mbugua:

“Haha, and the president is insisting that the youth should have discipline.”

Robert Kamuyu:

“This is not good. Respect traffic officers. No one is above the law.”

Limpopo Anto Jackothonya:

“This is very wrong. The IG should take action. There is no reason at all to abuse an officer on duty. This nonsense must end."

In other news, a viral video showed George’s Matrix matatu pulling a risky stunt near the Supreme Court roundabout.

The PSV leaned dangerously as youths clung to its sides.

Kenyans expressed mixed reactions, with some warning of looming tragedy and others applauding the dramatic display along City Hall Way.
