Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has been thrown into mourning after losing his mum, Mama Agatha Maina Namwamba.

The politician revealed that his mother passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, August 7.

"With profound sadness and a deep sense of loss, the Peter and Agatha Namwamba family regrets to announce the demise of our matriarch, Mama Agatha Maina Namwamba, who departed from our midst today, Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 12.30 pm," part of the message read.

Namwamba noted that their family spokesperson, Thomas Nyanyingi Namwamba, would handle the communications moving forward.

He also requested privacy from the public, and they also appealed for prayers and calm as the funeral arrangements get underway.

The death of the Namwamba matriarch comes months after the loss of the family's loyal bodyguard Jonah Kemboi Rotich.

Namwamba loved Rotich like a brother and was devastated to learn that he was ailing.

The politician honoured Rotich by penning a heartfelt message recalling him as a loyal bodyguard.

During Rotich's burial, Namwamba could not control his grief; he broke down in tears, leaving his partner to console him.

Namwamba was pictured standing over his late aide's casket while viewing his body and painfully wiping his tears.

Kenyans were heartbroken to learn that Prica died just a day after celebrating her birthday.
