Why did Bahati delay to fulfil promise to Harambee Stars?

In response to the growing calls, Bahati took to social media to address the situation.

He shared a video where he was seen stepping out of his luxurious mansion with wads of cash, explaining that he was still dedicated to fulfilling his promise.

Bahati clarified that he had been unable to access the players after the match due to the strict rules surrounding the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 tournament, which restricted access to the changing rooms.

"I promised to gift Harambee Stars players KSh 1 million. I'm not very rich, but this gift must get into the hands of the players themselves. Because of the CAF rules, I couldn’t access the changing rooms on Sunday, August 10. I’m a man of my words. Let me call Mariga; I want to take this money to the players," he said, dressed in a Harambee Stars jersey and holding the cash, presumed to be KSh 1 million.

What did Bahati discuss with Mariga?

In the video, Bahati can be heard calling McDonald Mariga, the deputy chairman of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), to seek permission to deliver the money to the players.

During the call, Bahati expressed his concerns about the fans’ pressure and asked for Mariga's approval to give the players the money.

"Boss, Kenyans are on my case. They don't understand that I have to go through FKF to offer my pledge. Just allow me to bring this money to the players," Bahati said.

Mariga responded, explaining that the players were off for a couple of days, adding that Bahati would be informed once they resumed training.

He also asked whether Bahati preferred to gift the money in the dressing room or on the pitch. Bahati chose to hand over the cash on the training ground, ensuring that he would not violate FKF protocols.
