Bongo star Diamond Platnumz has opened up about the inspiration behind his hit song Kamwambie.

He revealed that the song was written after he was dumped by his first girlfriend.

In an interview on the Way Up with Yee, Diamond shared that the relationship lasted two years, but it ended when he ran out of money and could no longer meet Sarah’s needs.

Diamond expressed how much he loved her, funnily noting that when one is broke, they love too much.

"My first girlfriend broke my heart and I went and wrote a song for her. After dropping that song, it become a hit song. I used to love her so bad and so much,. You know, when you don't have money, you love too much. You love like that because that is the only happiness that you have. I used to love her so much. We had been together for two years," Diamond said.

How did Sarah broke up with Diamond?

He explained how being broke led to the breakup.

"She told me straight, 'I can't be with someone who can't provide for me.' That’s when she ended the relationship," he recalled.

The emotional pain from the breakup led Diamond to channel his feelings into music.

He described how, after shedding tears over the situation, he went to the studio and poured his heart into a song.

"I remember crying that day. I went home, still upset, and in the process of healing, I went to the studio. I was stressed. I started singing whatever I was going through. I felt like I was just writing a song, but what I was expressing was something that I really wanted to say," he explained.

To Diamond's surprise, the song became a major hit, changing his life and catapulting him to greater success.

"After dropping that song, it became a hit song. She changed my life," he said.
