The singer, remembered for his timeless Kikuyu ballads, died in 2019 when his Nissan Navara rammed into a lorry near the Blue Post area.
How DeMathew’s wife honoured him
On the day, his second wife, Carolyne DeMathew, led her children in honouring the legend with flowers and prayers at his final resting place.

Carolyne had earlier penned a touching message on her social media page, writing:

“August 18, 2019, exactly 6 years today. Continue resting in peace. My heart is broken.”
She later shared a moving video that captured the family at DeMathew’s well-maintained grave.
Together with her children, Tyrese and Wayne, she placed roses and bouquets as a symbol of love and remembrance.
Fighting back tears, she thanked God for sustaining her family, expressed gratitude to her children for their obedience, and appreciated her fans for standing by her through the years.
“Today is August 18, the anniversary of our legend. As usual, we have brought him roses. It has not been easy, but God has remained faithful,” she said, visibly emotional.
Carolyne also used the moment to acknowledge brands and partners who have supported her journey as a single parent since the singer’s death.
Sarafina’s tribute to DeMathew
DeMathew’s first wife, Sarafina, chose a less public but equally symbolic way to remember the singer.
She posted a banner announcing a Mugithi event where fellow musicians would gather to perform in his honour, keeping his musical spirit alive through song.

What did Carolyne tell critics of her marriage?
Previously, Carolyne strongly shut down critics who kept poking into her late husband’s polygamous marriage.
Since the singer's untimely death in, the public has never stopped scrutinising her relationship with Sarafina.
