The rewards, which began with KSh 1 million per player for each match won and KSh 500,000 for a draw, have received mixed reactions.

During an interview on Spice FM, Wanjigi cast doubt on the money and its source.

Will Ruto use his money to reward Harambee Stars players?

He argued that it might be more about showbiz than actual financial commitment.

Wanjigi questioned whether the money is part of the national budget or if it is from Ruto's personal account.

"We are talking about props and showbiz. Lots of showbiz. You have seen Ruto's modus operandi since he came and even before; just showbiz. Please don’t buy into this rubbish. You give it too much attention. This money is a total waste of time," Wanjigi stated.

The politician further expressed doubts about the financial transparency behind the rewards.

"Is it in the budget? I’m sure it’s not coming from his pocket. So where is it coming from? It’s not in the budget. Did you hear it being passed in the budget? So he has got that money? Did he declare it when he got to power that he had that kind of money?" Wanjigi posed.

Wanjigi also suggested that if the head of state had suddenly accumulated such a large amount of money since assuming office, it would raise suspicions.
