The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader returned to the country on Thursday, August 21, after his tour of the United States came to an end.
Why is Onyi Jalamo supporting Gachagua?
It should be noted that Onyi dumped Raila Odinga for Gachagua and even did a remix of his famous NASA Tibim to welcome the now-opposition leader.
NASA Tibim was composed in 2017 and used in Raila's campaign as the National Super Alliance flagbearer.
Onyi had gone to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to receive Gachagua.
However, the welcoming ceremony turned chaotic after unknown goons infiltrated it.
Where was Onyi Jalamo attacked?
Onyi told TUKO.co.ke he was attacked by the goons and his media equipment was also destroyed along Mombasa Road.
"I was attacked by goons. They destroyed my media equipment. It's very unfortunate that this happened in Kenya. Everyone has a right to support whoever they want and they deserve protection," Onyi said.
The musician expressed confidence in Gachagua's leadership and vowed to remain loyal to him.
"Gachagua is a very honest leader. I call him Mr Truthful Man. He will make William Ruto a one-term president. He has all he takes to liberate this country from corrup leaders. I will support him untill the end," Onyi said.
Previously, Onyi rejected marriage with non-Raila supporters.
Were journalists attacked at Gachagua's welcome event?
As previously reported, journalists who went to cover Gachagua's welcome event were attacked at City Cabanas along Mombasa Road.
Viral photos and videos showed journalists being attacked, with their vehicles damaged after stones were thrown at them. Among those affected were journalists from Standard Group and Royal Media Services (RMS).
A statement from Cape Media on Thursday, August 21, revealed that TV47 journalists were also targeted by unknown assailants.
The attackers went further to steal essential equipment, including mobile phones and cameras, from the reporters.
The media outlet assured that they are in constant communication with the affected team and have reported the incident to the authorities.
Macharia Wamugo, the head of TV at Cape Media, condemned the attack and urged law enforcement to take swift action and hold the perpetrators accountable.
Was Gachagua's convoy attacked?
During the same event, Gachagua and his convoy were also not spared.
A confrontation ensued as goons threw stones at his motorcade while it was en route to Nairobi City Centre.
Police lobbed teargas to disperse the rowdy crowd.
