"My mother told me something yesterday. She told me she knew my sister Wahu would be in her life as she grew older, but she was killed. My sister was murdered. She was a celebrity. My mum said, 'I knew I would stay with her in my old days.' Unfortunately, she died," Kanyari shared with his congregants.

The preacher further revealed that after the loss of Wahu, his mother had shifted her hopes to his children.

Why did Kanyari warn against banking hopes on children?

However, Kanyari pointed out that even his own children, whom he had placed his trust in, were now leading their lives in ways that left him feeling disconnected.

"I put my hopes in my children. Right now, if I call my son, he tells me he is with his son. Another one tells me she will come to see me next week. Another one tells me, 'Wait, I will call you back later, I’m still in another important call,'" he added.

From his own experiences, Pastor Kanyari offered a piece of advice to his followers about not putting their hopes entirely on their children.

He pointed out the reality of growing apart as they pursue their own lives.

Pastor Kanyari shared that although he had provided his children with a good education, he didn’t expect them to meet his every need or expectation as they grew older.

"I'm telling you, don’t put hopes on your kids. Educate them, but don’t put hope on them. They will frustrate you in the coming years. Currently, my daughter is in the UK. That will be someone's wife. I have taken her to the UK. You will hear in the near future that she is married, then she might refuse to come back to Kenya if she gets married to a Caucasian man. On the other side, my son will tell me he is not coming back to Kenya. He will only be coming to see me during Christmas," Kanyari explained.
"So I need to plan myself before I get planned. You will be planned."
