Interview with Natalie Pinkham's publicist
In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Dean Piper, a veteran media personality based in the United Kingdom and publicist to Natalie Pinkham, shared insights on working with the Sky Sports F1 presenter, her journey in Formula 1 commentary and what she’s like behind the scenes.
Q: As a media personality close to Natalie Pinkham, what has her journey into Formula 1 broadcasting been like, and how has she established herself as one of the key presenters on Sky Sports F1?
Natalie is one of the most giving and open people I know. She’s a grafter and ensures every element of her role at Sky Sports F1 is her number one priority - aside from being a mother of two children. She has a lot to juggle and with that come sacrifices to her personal life. The reality is she loves her job and has made a name for herself in the industry because of that epic work ethic. There’s nobody trailblazing like she does for women too. She’s fought hard to map out her career in the industry and she was one of the first women in the pit lanes. With that hard work comes a lot of respect from her peers.
Q: What, in your opinion, makes Natalie stand out as a presenter? Does she have any particular strengths that showcase her unique approach to Formula 1 coverage?
Knowledge is power when you work within sports. Natalie knows every aspect of the drivers' lives, the teams that compete and she fully understands what the fans want to see and hear from her as a reporter and anchor. She’s there to deliver the best insight into F1 and she does that so well. I’d like to think she’s an inspiration to young girls and women coming through into the industry too. As somebody who has achieved so much in, let’s face it, predominantly a man’s world.
Q: You have interacted with her professionally. What is she like behind the scenes, and how does she prepare for race weekends and interviews with drivers or team staff?
Her family and being a mum come first. As her kids have gotten slightly older, she’s able to do more of the farther field races. But when the kids were young, she had to prioritise their well-being and her home life. She’s now in a position where she’s able to get around the world more easily and can do slightly longer stays. And sometimes the kids and her husband will come along. She’s an inspiration with the amount of work and charitable commitments she’s able to continue to do with a very busy schedule.
Q: How do you feel her presence on Sky Sports F1 has been received by fans and what more can they expect from her role ahead of the 2026 F1 season?
Natalie’s so synonymous with F1 now and she’s forged her way into such a pivotal role in Sky Sports F1. She’s a decent human being and that goes a long way in this day and age. She’s a team player, she knows her stuff and she’s made a mark on the industry because she loves it so much. I hope that hard work reflects with the fanbase and they see just how much commitment to the sport she’s made over the years. It’s a balancing act with a personal life and she might make it look easy, but it has had its challenges. She’s very much the definition of Girl Power if you ask me.
