Narok Senator Ledama Olekina asked his Twitter followers to give KSh 10 each that will be used to supply food to people stricken by drought.
"This drought is really hitting hard … my people in Marsabit, Kajiado, Baringo and Narok county are really in dare need of food. If my Twitter followers can give me a birthday present of Ksh 10.00 per person I could feed a lot of my brothers and sisters.: What do you think? JTOL," Ledama said on Twitter.
Ledama went ahead to explain that there are homesteads that have completely shut down after their animals were swept away by hunger and lack of water for weeks.

"We have homestead that have completely shut down! The drought has decimated our domestic animals! Our people are knocking on doors asking for food. Just food to survive !!!We must act now or else we are eliminated on this earth," the Narok senator said.
Some parts of Narok are among the regions hardly hit by the prevailing drought in the country.
Livestock, human population in danger
A report by the Red Cross stated that 4.35 million people are food insecure and require continued support because some have lost their food source.
Approximately 1.076 million children and pregnant women are acutely malnourished, and Redcross, in collaboration with the USAID and other government agencies, have been supplying nutritional supplements to fill the gap that has been brought by the lack of food to enable proper feeding for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
For livestock keepers, their animals are emaciated and cannot be converted to food or sold in exchange for money or food products.
The data showed that an estimated 2.5 million heads of livestock are said to have been lost due to the ongoing drought across the country.
"We estimate to about 2.5 million livestock have been lost, but the rest are not in very stable condition. Their body weight has really emaciated because of the long distance in search of food and water," Ministry of Livestock Principal Secretary Harry Kimutai disclosed.
While launching a dairy nutrition manual in Mombasa, Kimutai said the government is looking for more markets to export livestock to reduce huge losses in the affected areas.
