Upon entering her home, Zahara immediately checked her bedroom, where she stored the cash.
The following day, she called her niece, Khathra Hussein Ali, to collect the money to deliver to her grandmother in Namanga.
To her dismay, Zahara found the money missing and could not reach Kemunto, whose phone was turned off.
Zahara promptly reported the incident to the Parklands police station, filing a formal statement on June 19, 2023.
She noted that her house was securely locked, yet Kemunto allegedly used a spare key to access the bedroom and also took three dresses she had worn while working.
Khathra testified in court that when she arrived at her aunt's house, she found Zahara in tears, distraught over the missing funds.
Khathra advised her to report the theft to the police while she continued on her trip to Namanga.
A search for Kemunto ensued, and on August 11, 2024, Zahara informed Khathra that the suspect had been apprehended, prompting Khathra to provide her statement to authorities.

In other news, a househelp was charged with stealing a gold ring valued at USD 5300 (KSh 630,000).
On Monday, August 12, 2024, Violet Ndukwe Lijodi and Francis Mwima were arraigned before Milimani Law Court Magistrate Rose Ndobi for stealing extensive jewellery.
Why did Violet Ndukwe steal KSh 630,000 ring
According to the court papers, Violet, who worked as a housegirl in Runda, stole the ring and sold it to Francis at KSh 4,000.
Violet pleaded guilty to the offence and pleaded with the court to forgive her, arguing that she didn't know the item was so expensive.
She sobbed uncontrollably as she pleaded with the court to let her off the hook, saying that even though she stole the ring, she did it so that she could raise funds to foot her father's medical bills; who was admitted at a hospital in Kakamega.
However, her co-accused pleaded not guilty and asked the court to release him on bail, arguing that he was not a flight risk.
