DCI Arrests 3 Notorious Highway Robbers, Recovers Suspicious Items: "After Meticulous Operation"

In a statement on Tuesday, April 1, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced the arrest of Joseph Macharia Mwangi, Peter Muchemi Maina, and Agnes Malemba Mshenga.

According to the DCI, the suspects, who had allegedly been evading arrest for some time, were arrested following a meticulous surveillance operation along Mombadsa Road.

"Police officers based at Voi Police Station have apprehended three notorious highway robbers who have been evading capture for quite some time. The suspects, Joseph Macharia Mwangi, 40, Peter Muchemi Maina, 36, and Agnes Malemba Mshenga, 32, were taken into custody after a meticulous surveillance operation along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway," DCI said.

DCI disclosed that the trio was intercepted at the Vacani Resort while travelling in a white Subaru Legacy with the license plate KCJ 842Z.

Upon conducting a thorough search of their vehicle, officers uncovered three sets of reflective number plates: KCR 879U, KCA 583L, and KAZ 946L.

Detectives also recovered assorted items, including jungle uniforms, Maasai swords and a mechanic's kit loaded with spanners.

"Additionally, the officers recovered a range of suspicious items, including jungle uniforms, a kitchen knife, two Maasai swords, and a mechanics kit loaded with spanners, a jack, pressure pumps, puncture repair tools, brake pads, and various house-breaking implements," DCI stated.

The three suspects have been detained at Voi Police Station, awaiting arraignment.

Who is Ernest Musyoka?

In other news, police in Machakos arrested a 33-year-old man, Ernest Musyoka, and recovered government stores in his possession.

DCI said Musyoka, who was being sought for the offence of allegedly threatening to kill and assault, was arrested in his house at Itiko village.

"Upon searching the house, officers recovered an array of government stores, including a senior APS officer's sweater, a former maroon APS sweater, and a green jungle sweater. The haul also included three jungle belts, two pairs of APS trousers, three black berets, three jungle t-shirts, and four pairs of green socks. Additionally, officers recovered an NYS green sweater and two NYS shirts," DCI said.

How robbery suspects tortured Kajiado couple

Meanwhile, DCI detectives arrested four robbery with violence suspects in Kajiado county.

In a statement, DCI narrated how the suspects invaded the home of an elderly Korean couple at Elmarba within Oloililai, Kajiado County, on February 10.

According to the detectives, the suspects subjected the victims to hours of anguish before making away with valuables.

The suspects cut the grill of the window before accessing the couple's house inside Elmarba Full Gospel Church.
